59 Passes in the Build Up
Yes Barcelona were 3-0 by the time they scored a terrific fourth team goal in the Copa Del Rey final. But for those who watched the game last night the Barcelona possession during the build up to the goal typified their performance on the night. Calm, patient, and picking the right moments to inject the intensity into the attack. It reminded us of a recent video posted by Keepitonthedeck featuring a Pep Guardiola "Switch the Point of Attack" session from his FC Barcelona B days. In the session the objective is for teams to build play on one side of the pitch before quickly switching to the other side of the pitch and exploiting gaps/space with intensity in the passing and approach play.
View the Goal and then the Session Below it
First, take a look at the goal scored by Barcelona last night, and please pay particular attention to the increase of intensity in passing and the approach play from pass number 56.
The Session
Now see how that game scenario relates back to practice sessions we know have featured on the FC Barcelona training ground for well over a decade. The concept to attack opponents with patient build up, before quickly exploiting space by switching the point of attack.
